2024 The Year of Intimate Weddings

Weddings in the Fleurieu region have a different feel.  The affair is usually more relaxed and casual.  The ongoing trend of intimate weddings continues and the prediction for 2024, is this will continue.  Post pandemic, people are making all interactions matter – more meaningful, genuine and heartfelt.  Spending more time with family and special friends and getting them involved with the celebrations.  One of the positives to come out of the previous few years.

The last six months saw this reflected with the weddings I created for.  Private elopements. Celebrating at friends’ wineries or private properties.  Staying on the premises and making a weekend of it, together with close circles.  Couples are wanting to give something back and are being mindfully aware of the impact weddings can have on the environment – opting for sustainable techniques, repurposing flowers after their reception and on gifting to not for profits.  They are also happy to opt for Australian grown stems and especially what’s seasonally available.  All these elements lead to reducing the huge carbon footprint floristry can have.  All small actions lead to the greater goal and am a strong advocate of this.

Profiling a few couples who’s visions were focused on tapping into local vendors, small businesses and flowers which were all Australian grown.  E&K stayed at a local winery with their closest, with friends joining them before the ceremony for drinks and mingling.  It was an inclusive affair throughout the day.  At the end of their celebration, they gifted their florals – which were perfectly in tact – to a local aged care service provider in the region.  Their flowers had a new audience.  G&J chose to elope on their beautiful property, decorated with florals which were locally farmed.  They took it that one step further.  Using native flowers meant that they dried perfectly and continued to enjoy their own arrangements for months to follow.  M&B really wanted to use foliage from their family’s olive trees.  It was special and was a theme which was continued across all elements of the day.  A simple way to keep their overall costs down, to connect everyone with the familiarity of the tree and convey their own originality with floral designs.

These small practices made me feel very connected to the couples and was poured into each of the floral creations for their special days.  Tell me your story and together we can create a day unique to you.
